Job Description
The Remote Baker role involves crafting an impressive array of bakery delights while supporting the culinary team with various food preparation, production, and presentation tasks. This position is essential to ensuring the seamless operation of food service activities, adhering to NMS’s mission, vision, and values alongside departmental protocols.
We are actively seeking applications in anticipation of exciting rotational opportunities in Alaska, with varied schedules and locations across the Oil & Gas and Mining sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute core food production tasks based on the assigned shift, focusing on a distinct set of culinary items.
- Create and produce an extensive selection of bakery products in a remote camp environment, including pastry preparation tasks such as mixing and frying.
- Collaborate with supervisors to assess daily needs, complete production sheets, evaluate maintenance reports, and confirm the availability of supplies.
- Assist with menu planning and recipe development alongside assigned supervisors.
- Maintain kitchen inventory by monitoring and replenishing food production items according to proper rotation procedures.
- Prepare a diverse range of meals, which may include breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages, sandwiches, salad components, and various desserts.
- Present and restock essential food items including fresh vegetables, salads, cheeses, and bakery treats.
- Utilize production sheets for effective inventory management and to meet the needs of serving areas.
- Operate diverse food preparation equipment and techniques while producing salads and handling food production tasks.
- Offer assistance in food production and special projects as required by the team.
- Participate in serving lines and manage special food preparation or cleaning duties as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in preparation areas and food service stations.
- Oversee adherence to food safety regulations and methods, ensuring a hygienic environment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors to address meal preparation needs and supply stock.
- Fulfill additional tasks that contribute to the unit’s success as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A minimum of three years of significant experience in restaurant cooking and/or baking, showcasing a solid understanding of high-volume food and bakery production.
- Possession of an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
- Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including drug testing and health assessments.
- Ability to train and mentor others, demonstrating strong multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented mindset with the capability to collaborate with colleagues and clients effectively.
- Decision-making skills that can operate with minimal supervision.
- Must be comfortable standing for 12 hours during scheduled shifts.
- Adaptability to dormitory living conditions and compliance with cleanliness standards in remote settings.
- Adherence to all safety guidelines set forth by the company and clients.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts or completion of a recognized professional training program; candidates without formal training should have an additional two years of relevant experience.
- At least two years of supervisory experience in a restaurant or industrial kitchen setting.
Note for Candidates Residing Outside the Anchorage Area:
For pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the hiring point. Employees must cover their travel costs for any required pre-employment tasks in Anchorage, including necessary training and assessment.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Job involves both indoor and outdoor settings with frequent exposure to arctic conditions.
- Moderate to loud noise levels typical of an industrial kitchen.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, climbing, and a Fit For Duty Test may apply.
