Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Part-Time Collector to join our dynamic Collections team. This crucial role focuses on assisting members who have fallen behind on their consumer, commercial, or real estate loans. As a vital link in our operations, you will engage with members empathetically and constructively through various communication channels, aiming to understand their situations and help them navigate their past due status.
In this position, your primary responsibility will be to devise personalized solutions to resolve overdue loans. You will conduct independent research to validate financial responsibilities and locate accurate member contact details. Your efforts will contribute significantly to maintaining the balance between individual member needs and the overarching goals of UFCU, all while adhering to our established policies and applicable regulations.
This role reports directly to the Assistant Manager of Collections and offers the flexibility of remote work from Texas, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, or Montana.

Key Responsibilities
Member Communication
- Validate the identities of members and third parties.
- Engage with members via phone, email, text, chat, and letters to connect with those responsible for overdue loans.
- Establish professional, courteous, and empathetic relationships with members to facilitate effective communication.
- Inform members of past due statuses, explore reasons behind delinquencies, assess willingness to resolve issues, and initiate actionable plans.
- Propose tailored solutions for loan resolution, ensuring understanding and timely follow-ups on commitments.
- Assist members in overcoming obstacles to timely payments, including validating loan details and providing necessary documentation.
- Generate written communications to address member inquiries and initiate conversations.
- Deliver accurate and timely information on UFCU services, addressing restrictions as needed.
System Utilization and Compliance
- Become proficient in various collection management systems and tools, ensuring accurate data entry and retrieval.
- Adhere to applicable laws and UFCU policies in all collections activities, documenting actions appropriately.
- Familiarize yourself with other departments’ systems and processes to enhance loan servicing.
- Suggest improvements to procedures and participate in enhancement initiatives.
- Engage in projects aimed at upgrading UFCU systems as needed.
Competencies and Qualifications
- Basic understanding of the financial sector, including distinguishing between banks and credit unions.
- Familiarity with UFCU products, financial terminology, and debt collection regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in customer service principles and MS Office applications.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on empathy and active listening.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and handle multiple communication methods simultaneously.
- Excellent critical thinking and negotiation skills to navigate member conversations effectively.
