Our focus goes beyond selling products – we strive to address challenges and transform lives through the power of Monzo.

We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic individual who loves building from the ground up and thrives in dynamic environments.

As part of our Payments Collective, you’ll play a vital role in turning Monzo’s ambitious vision into reality, facilitating growth in revenue and our customer base through a robust, self-serve banking platform.

    About the Position

In this pivotal role, you’ll spearhead the design, development, and management of Monzo’s European payment capabilities as we expand our footprint across Europe. You will oversee a range of partnerships, lead intricate implementation projects, craft scalable operational processes, and collaborate closely with product and engineering teams within the Payments and EU divisions.

Initially focused on the EU market, this position will broaden to encompass global responsibilities as our Payments team transitions to a service-oriented model supporting Monzo’s expansive growth.

    • Facilitating partner selection and nurturing relationships with new partners and payment schemes.
    • Managing the implementation projects for payment schemes, including onboarding and compliance processes.
    • Collaborating with payments engineers and EU product teams to develop, launch, and maintain new payment systems across Europe.
    • Establishing innovative back-office processes to efficiently manage and scale EU payment systems.
    • Identifying and prioritizing issues to drive continuous improvement after launch.
    • Setting up performance management processes for our partners and operations.
    • Proven experience in payment systems and schemes within the EU landscape.
    • Familiarity with applicable payments regulations for banks in Europe (e.g., SEPA, Bizum, IDEAL).
    • A proactive self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and comfort in navigating ambiguity.
    • Experience managing relationships with a diverse array of suppliers and third-party partners.
    • Ability to construct and scale complex operational frameworks.
    • Strong strategic thinking skills, adept at balancing short- and long-term objectives.
    • Comfort working with technical systems alongside engineering teams.
    • A passion for solving intricate problems, demonstrated by a track record in managing performance and service-level agreements (SLAs).
    • Capacity to cultivate partnerships and achieve consensus while resolving challenges.
    • Ability to find clarity in complex situations and focus on impactful outcomes.
    • Highly organized, with experience in overseeing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
    • Analytical mindset with a penchant for data-driven decision-making.
