    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Senior Director of U.S. Patient Advocacy will spearhead our initiatives to forge impactful and meaningful collaborations with community organizations addressing neurological conditions, aligning with Lundbeck’s strategic objectives. This pivotal role will oversee the creation and execution of a comprehensive patient advocacy strategy, ensuring that external community engagement is seamlessly integrated with internal leadership efforts to advance patient-centered solutions. The Senior Director will provide strategic vision, mentorship, and operational guidance, ensuring that the patient voice resonates throughout the organization while developing a high-performing Patient Advocacy team at Lundbeck.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic Leadership

    • Design and implement a cohesive U.S. patient advocacy strategy that aligns with Lundbeck’s corporate goals.
    • Act as the organization’s foremost expert on patient advocacy, offering insights, best practices, and guidance across diverse teams and therapeutic areas.
    • Lead cross-functional teamwork to incorporate the patient perspective into product development, clinical trial frameworks, regulatory submissions, commercialization efforts, and follow-up programs.
    • Strengthen the functionality and impact of Lundbeck’s U.S. Patient Advocacy division.

    Team Development and Leadership

    • Assemble and lead a dedicated Patient Advocacy team, promoting a culture rich in collaboration, innovation, and a focus on patient needs.
    • Mentor team members, offering professional development that enhances their expertise and impact.
    • Identify areas for operational enhancement to improve team efficiency, effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement.
    • Set and track clear objectives, metrics, and performance standards for the Patient Advocacy function to ensure alignment with corporate goals and industry benchmarks.

    Engagement with Patients and Advocacy Groups

    • Develop and nurture productive relationships with U.S.-based patient advocacy organizations, influential patient leaders, caregivers, and other significant voices in the neuroscience and rare disease communities.
    • Collaborate with advocacy groups to co-develop programs supporting disease awareness, education, access to care, and research involvement.
    • Represent Lundbeck at advocacy meetings, conferences, and community events to act as a trusted champion for patient-driven collaborations.
    • Ensure inclusivity in patient advocacy initiatives to meet the varying needs of the communities we serve.

    Internal Integration and Advocacy

    • Collaborate closely with internal departments (like Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial) to embed patient insights throughout the organization.
    • Support initiatives to elevate patient and caregiver voices in significant discussions, including public policy advocacy, clinical research design, and regulatory dialogues.
    • Develop training materials to educate employees about the challenges faced by the communities we serve.
    • Serve as a key advisor to leadership, presenting patient insights and trends to guide strategic initiatives.

    Metrics and Reporting

    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficacy of patient advocacy programs and efforts.
    • Regularly report to senior leadership on successes, challenges, and emerging opportunities in the neuroscience and rare disease sectors.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, life sciences, or a related field.
    • Over 12 years of experience in patient advocacy or external affairs (including Communications, Government Affairs, and Medical Affairs) in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare sectors.
    • At least 5 years of experience in team leadership and development, demonstrating success in building high-performing functions.
    • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain strategic partnerships with advocacy organizations, patient leaders, and caregivers.
    • Proven track record in developing and executing advocacy plans and integrated communication efforts aligned with corporate strategies.
    • Thorough understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, including compliance, legal, regulatory, reimbursement, and public policy factors affecting healthcare and patient engagement.
    • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to motivate and guide teams toward achieving shared objectives.
    • A results-oriented mindset balanced with the compassionate requirements of patient advocacy.
    • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with a patient-centric approach that reflects an understanding of the patient journey and the impact of health conditions on individuals and their support systems.
    • A genuine passion for enhancing the lives of patients and families affected by neurological disorders.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, both internally and externally.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Strong preference for candidates based in Deerfield, IL.
    • Advanced degree in life sciences, public health, communications, or a related discipline.
    • Expertise in rare diseases, with a deep appreciation of the unique needs of the rare neuroscience community.
    • Experience in patient advocacy within the rare disease domain.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Domestic travel up to 30% monthly, with some international travel as needed.

    The displayed salary range is a national scale, and the final offer may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. Salary Pay Range: $260,000 – $310,000 with eligibility for a 30% performance-based bonus, along with participation in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
