We are seeking a General Counsel to join as the legal backbone of the company to guide us through funding rounds and continued expansion into new product domains and jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will be someone who can navigate a broad range of legal complexities in various regions while being an integral part of the executive leadership team, adding invaluable legal guidance and strategic insight. The candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team as the guardian of the organisation’s legal compliance and risk mitigation.
What you will do:
Cultivate and guide Intent HQ’s legal strategy across several subject matters, including payments, lending, consumer protection, privacy and data protection, IP, marketing, and ecommerce to manage legal risk and ensure regulatory compliance while pushing forward business development
- Create, lead, and develop teams responsible for:
Advising product and engineering teams on legal issues related to Intent HQ’s products and features throughout product development to launch lifecycle;
Drafting and negotiating commercial legal transactions, including fundraising, sales and strategic development, partnership, procurement, and data processing agreements;
Managing regulatory engagement and providing regulatory guidance on Intent HQ’s products to cross-functional legal and business partners on laws and industry trends relevant to artificial intelligence and advertising technology; and
Advising local business stakeholders on and overseeing all aspects of international legal compliance of Intent HQ’s services offered in the UK, the EU, and the United States.
Work with business and legal partners to manage risk and unblock legal hurdles
Partner with senior management and executive leaders to provide strategic, practical, and creative legal advice that contributes to amazing product experiences for customers while mitigating legal risks
Advise on or manage your team in supporting strategic growth projects, including fundraising, M&A or other transactions
Manage and lead different legal operations programs, including creating training materials, developing automated and scalable processes and knowledge management systems, and budgeting
Chart the strategic direction of the team as we prioritize and expand product offerings and move into new global jurisdictions
Be a thought leader, contributing to legal strategy, company priorities, and team development
Who we are looking for:
Strong Legal Foundation: A robust background in law, with significant experience in corporate law, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, and commercial contracting and negotiations, among other fields, to provide a solid legal backbone for the company.
Strategic Acumen: An individual capable of aligning legal strategies with overarching business goals, ensuring that legal decisions contribute to the company’s growth and success.
- Leadership Skills: Someone who can lead and inspire a legal team, fostering an environment of excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the legal department.
Global Legal Proficiency: Experience in navigating legal complexities across multiple jurisdictions, enabling smooth operations and compliance adherence in new markets.
- Compliance and Risk Management Expertise: A proven track record in mitigating risks and ensuring compliance, acting as the guardian of the organization’s legal standing.
A minimum of 8 years of combined relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, or in-house legal departments
Experience growing and managing teams of lawyers and legal professionals, including team budgeting, strategic planning, and career development
Experience launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the AI and advertising spaces
Excellent commercial negotiation and drafting skills
Strong executive communication skills (both written and verbal)
An active law qualification or bar membership in the UK or one US state
Prior experience in startups and high growth companies preferred
