Job Description
MPF Federal invites applications from meticulous and knowledgeable individuals for the role of Librarian, tasked with enhancing transcript quality control, creating metadata, and organizing archival collections of oral histories in a remote setting. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a solid background in library science, descriptive cataloging, and digital archive management, coupled with a passion for preserving significant cultural and historical narratives.
Compensation: Salary of $54,100, equating to $26 per hour.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM (Eastern Time).
Location: This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates located within the Eastern Standard Time zone.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough reviews of oral history transcripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with quality standards.
- Enhance and optimize metadata for individual oral history records, ensuring they are easily discoverable and contextually rich.
- Generate collection-level metadata as assigned, addressing any informational gaps within existing documentation.
- Adhere to archival best practices while ensuring compliance with NOAA Voices Oral History data governance protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Review and upload professionally transcribed files into the NOAA Voices database and related spreadsheets.
- Collaborate effectively with volunteers and contracted personnel to manage data processing activities and uphold project timelines.
Requirements:
Required:
- A Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of full-time professional librarian experience.
- Proven experience in reviewing transcripts for precision and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with descriptive cataloging practices.
- Expertise in applying metadata for digital and archival collections.
- Experience working with archival databases.
Preferred:
- Experience in processing and describing oral histories.
- Background in handling transcripts and audio file processing.
