Exceptional candidates may qualify for additional salary allowances, reaching £62,000 nationally or £67,000 within the M25. Plus, enjoy a homeworking allowance of £581 annually.

As a Senior Azure Data Engineer, you will be pivotal in crafting, developing, testing, and sustaining our enterprise data platform. Your mission is to ensure seamless access to data that meets both business objectives and user expectations. You will be responsible for enhancing the automation, scalability, reliability, and security of our data services while fostering opportunities for component reuse, adaptation, and efficient engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test robust data pipelines and services utilizing multiple systems and varied storage technologies on the Enterprise Data Platform, focusing on creating reusable components.
- Write and refine code from the prototyping phase to production, ensuring adherence to security, accessibility, and version control best practices with an array of coding tools and languages.
- Collaborate closely with the Data & Insight Unit to translate requirements into effective solutions, conveying information between technical and non-technical stakeholders while facilitating discussions in a multidisciplinary context.
- Deliver reliable and sustainable data solutions that align with organizational standards, ensuring services are scalable, resilient, and future-proof.
- Understand and apply data modeling principles to produce, maintain, and update relevant physical data models tailored to specific business needs in accordance with enterprise data architecture standards.
- Design and implement secure data solutions for the management of sensitive information, incorporating necessary controls to protect and audit such data.
- Thoroughly document and annotate code and components for ease of support, maintenance, and future development.
- Partner with QA Engineers to oversee testing processes, aiming for maximum automation where feasible.
- Stay informed about new tools and innovative data applications, embracing a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Foster collaborative relationships across the organization, encouraging a supportive and professional environment.
- Provide oversight and mentorship to suppliers and team members, enhancing team performance and effectiveness.
- Implement quality control and assurance processes to ensure high standards in deliverables.
- Offer guidance and direction to peers and junior colleagues, supporting their line management and professional growth as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into actionable solution designs.
- Proficiency in MS Azure Databricks.
- Familiarity with databases such as SQL Server, Data Warehouse Architecture, and experience with big data, data lakes, and NoSQL technologies.
- Experience with product/solution development lifecycles using methodologies like Agile, SAFe, and DevOps, along with associated tools (e.g., version control, task tracking).
- Demonstrated ability in writing ETL scripts and optimizing ETL processes.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages for data manipulation, such as Python and Scala.
- Extensive background in modern cloud-based data engineering and the creation of data transformation routines.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles and the ability to apply those to design effective data solutions.
- Experience supporting and enabling AI technologies.
- Familiarity with establishing data flows between operational and analytics systems.
- Skill in documenting source-to-target mappings.
- Aptitude for assessing technical issues and determining effective solutions.
- Knowledge of data security and protection practices (e.g., GDPR) and their implementation through technology.
- Excellent decision-making and leadership abilities with mentoring experience.
- Capability to identify challenges and lead solution delivery while managing stakeholder expectations effectively.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Understanding of the health and care sectors.
- Proficiency in Power BI for data reporting and analysis.
