PAY RANGE: The Target Pay Range for this role is $134,200.00 – $164,000.00 annually, with a full range of $104,200.00 – $194,000.00 annually. Compensation is influenced by various factors, including job-related skills, experience, and educational background. Individual qualifications will be taken into account upon a job offer. Additionally, performance-based incentives are available, varying by role.
BENEFITS: We offer a comprehensive benefits package for employees and eligible family members, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Employees can participate in our 401(k) plan and an employer-funded retirement plan. New employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) per pay period, totaling a maximum of 160 hours per year, along with ten paid holidays throughout the year. IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE: As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in crafting and enhancing sophisticated data workflows that drive critical data-informed decisions within the organization. You will lead development initiatives, create enterprise-grade data pipelines, and mentor fellow data engineers, upholding high standards for data management and governance. Utilizing your expertise in coding, data modeling, and cloud technologies, you will tackle significant business challenges and shape BECU’s data architecture. Your collaboration with systems and business analysts will be key to advancing data initiatives throughout the enterprise. Candidates must reside in WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC to qualify for this remote work opportunity.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Design and Develop Data Workflows: Innovate by designing, coding, testing, and documenting complex data workflows and pipelines for optimization.
- Lead and Mentor Data Engineers: Guide and support data engineering teams, automating processes and enhancing business data interactions.
- Present and Communicate Technical Topics: Share your knowledge by explaining intricate data engineering concepts to the broader technical community, promoting innovation and teamwork.
- Coordinate Complex Development Efforts: Oversee the design and implementation of data workflows and pipelines, ensuring alignment with technical requirements across projects.
- Prototype and Innovate: Create proofs of concept that merge your technical prowess with data workflow design, fostering innovative solutions.
- Implement Data Governance: Play a role in establishing metadata management and master data policies, ensuring adherence to organizational standards.
- Organize Data Curation Policies: Lead initiatives to create and enforce data quality and accessibility policies throughout workflows and pipelines.
- Collaborate on Technology Roadmaps: Partner with Architects and Product Owners to document the technology roadmap, influencing long-term data strategy.
- Enhance Code Quality and Standards: Uphold coding standards across teams, ensuring the scalability and quality of data solutions in line with BECU’s vision.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least five years of experience in data engineering and four years with coding languages like Python, Scala, Java, SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Practical experience with modern data platforms like Azure Synapse, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
- Proficiency in ETL/ELT processes, SQL, and cloud data integration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue).
- Knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and analysis.
- Experience with master data management (MDM), metadata, and governance tools (such as Alation or Azure Purview).
- Proficiency using CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub, including understanding of Git workflows.
- Background in Test Driven Development (TDD) and experience with various testing methodologies.
- Ability to deliver scalable data solutions through programming languages suited to BECU’s technical environments.
