As part of Black & McDonald’s Facilities Services division, the Commercial Manager plays a vital role in shaping our approach to Facilities Management (FM) across the country. Reporting directly to the Senior Commercial Manager, this full-time position offers a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional seeking to advance their career within a dynamic environment. Your contributions will be pivotal in driving our team’s success and enhancing our capabilities, ultimately supporting the growth of our Facility Services business.
Key responsibilities you’ll engage in include:
Commercial Review: Take the lead in reviewing, assessing, and advising on bids and opportunities, including the analysis of RFx and contractual documents from both commercial and operational viewpoints.
Estimating: Oversee estimating activities for all assigned bids (new, renewals, and expansions), focusing on developing effective service delivery models, staffing plans, and subcontractor strategies.
Operational Support: Utilize your technical expertise to advise the bid team and FM Operations regarding risk, strategy, and innovative solution development for pursuing or renewing contracts.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Delivery Model Development: Craft comprehensive commercial service delivery models, ensuring alignment with contract structure, staffing, scheduling, and subcontracting strategies tailored to client needs.
Pricing Estimation & Financial Modeling: Lead the contract pricing estimation process, creating detailed labor, materials, and overhead projections to support competitive bids, while ensuring pricing strategies are robust and appealing.
Contractual Review & Risk Management: Conduct in-depth reviews of contractual terms, identify potential commercial risks, and recommend negotiation strategies, collaborating with legal counsel for compliance and industry standard alignment.
Technical and Commercial Integration: Work alongside Proposal Managers to effectively integrate commercial elements into technical solutions, ensuring the final proposal meets client expectations and demonstrates our commercial strengths.
Support for Negotiations & Client Engagement: Assist in contract negotiations and contribute to discussions with clients, showcasing our commercial strategies with clarity and confidence.
Industry Insight & Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on union agreements, compliance standards, and market trends, adapting commercial strategies as necessary to meet evolving client demands.
Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration: Drive initiatives to enhance the commercial bid process efficiency while promoting seamless communication across internal teams throughout the pursuit lifecycle.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree (MBA, MSc) and FM designations (e.g., FMA, FMP, C.E.T.) are advantageous.
Experience: Minimum 7 years in commercial, operations, or business development within facilities management, engineering, or construction sectors, showcasing success in developing service delivery models and pricing strategies for complex service contracts.
Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of facilities management services, including hard and soft services as well as specialized support services related to energy and sustainable practices.
Skills: Exceptional analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency, outstanding communication abilities for conveying concepts to diverse stakeholders, and a proactive mindset suitable for a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
