As a valued member of our field-based scientific team, you will serve as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) within the US Medical Affairs organization. You’ll play a key role in fostering and strengthening professional relationships with medical thought leaders who are crucial to our product development journey. Your responsibilities will encompass delivering medical information through scientific exchange and providing clinical and scientific support on behalf of Jazz Pharmaceuticals and our Medical Affairs division.
This role covers Central California, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii, requiring professionals with established credibility and the ability to engage with leading experts and academic institutions.
Core Responsibilities
Key Opinion Leader Development and Engagement:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the Oncology therapeutic area.
- Strategically develop and execute territory plans that align with US Medical Affairs objectives.
- Relay important clinical and research insights from KOLs to the relevant departments within the organization.
- Participate in medical education initiatives for healthcare professionals via presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, and regional gatherings.
- Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training.
Establishing Scientific Expertise:
- Maintain current, high-level knowledge of the therapeutic area, Jazz products, and emerging research trends and competitive landscapes.
- Build a reputation as a credible source of scientific and medical knowledge among healthcare professionals.
- Support Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ positioning as a leader in Oncology through attendance at scientific congresses and active participation in KOL engagements.
- Understand local and national clinical practice standards and disease management protocols in the US.
- Offer clinical presentations and responses to inquiries in academic, community, and healthcare settings, both individually and in group formats.
- Communicate emerging data and product experiences through scientific exchanges that maintain an objective perspective.
Medical Affairs Planning and Strategy Execution:
- Contribute to developing the US Medical Plan with input on local strategies and initiatives.
- Manage relevant budgets to facilitate the execution of Medical Plan tactics where applicable.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure a Key Account Management approach.
- Engage with healthcare professionals as a scientific resource to support Medical Plan activities including advisory boards and clinical trials.
Upholding Company Standards and Values:
- Actively enhance Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ reputation as a leader in medical innovation by leveraging your product knowledge and engaging in meaningful scientific discussions with healthcare providers.
- Document and report any adverse events and product complaints as per company policy to ensure the safe use of Jazz products.
- Adhere strictly to national and local Codes of Practice, demonstrating ethical behavior and integrity.

- Proven ability to build trust and relationships with opinion leaders in relevant therapeutic areas.
- Understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting field-based personnel.
Education and Licensing Requirements:
- An advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years of experience in oncology medicine is mandatory.
- A license (RN, NP, CNP, PA, or equivalent) along with a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in oncology medicine is essential.
- At least 2 years in a Medical Science Liaison role or a similar industry/clinical position is required.
- Preferred candidates will have experience in solid tumors/targeted therapies and a strong track record.
This field-based role requires a willingness to travel up to 60% of the time, as well as a valid driver’s license and proximity to a major airport.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequent travel to various meeting sites.
- Regular operation of office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones.
Interactions will primarily occur in healthcare settings, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or environmental changes. Some flexibility in work hours may be necessary to align with business needs, and appropriate business attire is expected during public engagements.

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $154,400.00 – $231,600.00, contingent on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and job performance. In addition to base pay, candidates may be eligible for an annual cash bonus or incentive compensation, along with discretionary equity grants.
