The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a pivotal member of a specialized field-based team, extending the efforts of the US Medical Affairs organization. MSLs are tasked with establishing and nurturing relationships with influential medical thought leaders and healthcare professionals throughout various stages of product development. They play an integral role in delivering scientific insights and clinical support for Jazz Pharmaceuticals and the Medical Affairs department.
This field-based position spans Pittsburgh, PA, and Upstate NY, requiring professionals with established scientific credibility and the ability to engage effectively with thought leaders and leading academic institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Development and Field Engagement:
- Forge and cultivate peer relationships with KOLs and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
- Design and implement territory plans that align with broader US Medical Affairs objectives.
- Relay critical clinical and research insights gathered from KOLs to the relevant internal teams.
- Engage in medical education for healthcare professionals through in-person presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, and regional gatherings.
Positioning as a Scientific Expert:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapeutic area, Jazz products, emerging research, relevant therapeutic issues, and competitive dynamics.
- Establish a reputation as a reliable source of scientific and medical information within the healthcare community.
- Support Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ positioning as a scientific authority by attending relevant scientific congresses and contributing to KOL activities.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of clinical practice standards and disease management trends in the US.
- Deliver clinical presentations and respond to unsolicited inquiries in both individual and group settings.
- Facilitate the communication of emerging data and our products’ clinical experiences through objective scientific discourse.
- Assist with data generation initiatives including company-sponsored studies and investigator-initiated trials.
- Provide scientific support for medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training efforts.
Medical Affairs Strategy and Execution
- Contribute to the creation of the US Medical Plan while providing insights into local strategies and tactics.
- Manage appropriate budget allocations to facilitate the execution of Medical Plan initiatives alongside the Medical Affairs team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to adopt a Key Account Management approach.
- Serve as a scientific resource for HCP activities aligned with the Medical Plan, such as advisory boards and speaker engagements.

- Document and report adverse events and product complaints in accordance with company policy for safe product utilization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the local healthcare environment and relationships with experts in academia and the medical community.
- Proven ability to cultivate trust with opinion leaders within relevant disease areas.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
- Experience in oncology is highly desirable.
- A background as a Medical Science Liaison with a demonstrated record of success is preferred.
Educational and Licensing Requirements
- An advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Oncology Medicine are required.
- Licensure (RN, NP, CNP, PA, or equivalent) along with a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) and at least 5 years’ experience in oncology medicine.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Medical Science Liaison position or a comparable industry or clinical role is required.
- Preferred experience in solid tumors and targeted therapies.
Physical and Work Environment
- Frequent travel between meeting locations.
- Regular use of a computer, printer, telephone, and other office equipment.
- Regular interaction with external contacts in various office settings, with minimal exposure to noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations.
- Responsibilities may require working outside of normal hours to meet business obligations, maintaining a professional appearance for public engagement.

FOR US BASED CANDIDATES ONLY:
Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. upholds a commitment to equitable compensation practices, ensuring that total compensation packages remain competitive in the marketplace. For this role, the complete base pay range is $154,400.00 – $231,600.00. Individual compensation within this range will be determined by factors such as qualifications, experience, job knowledge, and other relevant criteria. Our aim is to ensure compensation aligns fairly with the candidate’s expertise and contributions within the established pay framework. Regular reviews of this pay range will be conducted.
