    Job Description

Join our dynamic team at the University of Florida as a Post-Doctoral Associate focused on Remote Sensing and Land Use-Fire Regime Dynamics! This position, set to commence in July 2025, offers a unique opportunity to engage in a forward-thinking NASA-funded project under the guidance of Dr. Di Yang, within our Department of Geography. Your research will dive into the intricate interplay between land use changes and fire regimes over the last six decades, using a mix of historical satellite imagery, modern LiDAR technology, and citizen science.

In this role, you will have the chance to:

    • Innovate by developing sophisticated deep learning algorithms designed for the classification of historical CORONA satellite imagery.

    • Seamlessly integrate diverse datasets, including GEDI LiDAR and GLOBE citizen science observations, to enrich your research.

    • Utilize advanced geospatial and statistical modeling techniques to analyze land use relationships with fire regimes.

    • Play a pivotal role in creating predictive models that assess future fire risks across varying climate and land use scenarios.

This position not only immerses you in the cutting-edge field of environmental remote sensing but also places you at the heart of significant questions in land change science and fire ecology, all while working with distinctive datasets and complex computational methodologies.

Please note that this position is renewable for up to two years and may extend further based on performance and funding availability.
