Job Overview:
This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate and timely billing and account collections, focusing on obtaining necessary documentation such as pre-certifications, codes, and insurance details. You’ll be responsible for entering this information into the database and effectively managing denied claims to secure timely payments. Customer inquiries regarding billing will be directed to you, and you’ll be tasked with preparing and maintaining essential billing reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and categorize items for billing based on the services rendered.
- Gather required documentation and pre-certifications for billing.
- Accurately enter all charges and submit bills following established Patient Accounting policies.
- Post payments and conduct daily reconciliations, in addition to producing daily census reports and executing month-end closes.
- Maintain and update data in the billing management system, ensuring accuracy and completeness in documentation.
- Analyze and identify billing issues to proactively reduce denials and discrepancies.
- Manage system-generated reports, addressing balances, credits, and no-pay items.
- Communicate effectively with various departments to assist with customer service inquiries, acting as a liaison with Patient Accounting, Physician billing services, employers, and insurance carriers to ensure a smooth billing process.
- Keep management informed about billing and coding challenges, including documentation, denials, and appeals.
- Conduct monthly follow-ups on assigned insurances and maintain documentation for claims that require appeals.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- 1-3 years in billing, collections, registration, or a similar hospital/office setting.
- One year of experience using the Epic system is highly preferred.
- Must possess fast and accurate data entry skills, with great organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, showcasing excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in PC use, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
