Job Description
In the role of Online and Distance Education Learning and Technology Support Specialist, you’ll play a vital part in enhancing the educational journey for students at Husson University’s Online Division. This position involves collaborating with our Instructional Technology team to provide comprehensive support for Canvas and other educational technologies. You will also work closely with the Learning Experience team to design, develop, and manage high-quality asynchronous online courses. By utilizing a diverse range of technology tools and applying your in-depth understanding of learning processes, you will enhance all facets of the student experience at Husson Online.
Your responsibilities will include partnering with stakeholders to incorporate cutting-edge educational technologies that boost pedagogical effectiveness. Leveraging data-driven insights, you will contribute to the development of innovative asynchronous teaching strategies while providing support to faculty utilizing new technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with both Instructional Technology and Learning Experience staff, with the potential for remote work options.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay ahead of the curve by maintaining a deep knowledge of the latest educational technology tools and online learning trends.
- Partner with the Instructional Technology team to deliver outstanding support to faculty and staff, create new services, and assess new academic and learning technologies.
- Assist in evaluating and selecting new educational technologies and resources to enhance our offerings.
- Analyze the effectiveness of technologies, providing data-informed recommendations to leadership and staff.
- Generate training materials and support resources for faculty, staff, and students focusing on educational technologies.
- Oversee the maintenance and updates of the LMS while coordinating with the Instructional Technology team.
- Guide faculty, staff, leadership, and subject matter experts in effectively navigating the Canvas learning management system.
- Serve as an expert resource and primary contact for Canvas and other educational technologies.
- Apply relevant learning theories to course design and delivery to improve student outcomes.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, faculty, and staff to create innovative, high-quality online courses.
- Adapt and provide support for complex course designs involving multiple stakeholders.
- Create engaging online content in Canvas and integrate the latest educational technologies to enhance student learning experiences.
- Manage and facilitate the administrative tasks related to course development, delivery, and support.
- Assess course quality to ensure adherence to best practices.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education: A master’s degree is required, with a preference for degrees in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or Education.
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience in instructional technology or instructional design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in basic HTML, CSS, and web development.
- Experience managing complex projects with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- A strong record of successful collaboration on projects with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent skills in research, content analysis, and preparation.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a collaborative team environment.
- Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, complemented by strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- A demonstrated capability to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies.
- A solid foundation in instructional design or technology strategies, along with familiarity with current tools and techniques in the field.
- Understanding of Universal Design and accessibility principles to ensure course content is universally accessible.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with faculty, subject matter experts, colleagues, leadership, and media developers.
- Competence in navigating learning management systems, particularly Canvas.
