Key Responsibilities:
As the Associate Director, External Manufacturing Lead (EML), you will oversee a performance-driven external Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) portfolio for Jazz’s commercial products. Your role will involve forming and nurturing strategic business partnerships with CMOs, serving as the principal point of contact for all performance, contractual compliance, and supply chain matters.
You will spearhead high-performing, cross-functional teams accountable for achieving CMO performance targets. Collaborating closely with CMOs, you will establish and implement manufacturing and supply plans that align with Jazz’s Technical Operations strategy, ensuring efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective supply delivery.
You will regularly assess CMO performance, utilizing best-in-class metrics and KPIs. Your expertise will aid in identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies while promoting continuous improvements that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability in line with Jazz’s objectives.
Core Responsibilities:
CMO Relationship Management:
- Cultivate strong relationships with CMOs to foster collaboration and create long-term value while encouraging an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Manage the complete business relationship, ensuring CMO adherence to contractual obligations and performance benchmarks, maintaining quality, cost-efficiency, delivery timelines, and compliance.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead cross-functional teams, ensuring supply plans and projects meet established standards and are delivered effectively.
- Act as the primary contact for CMO performance and supply-related inquiries, proactively addressing and resolving issues to prevent supply disruptions.
- Set strategic objectives and long-term plans for CMOs to align with company-wide goals.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Develop and manage comprehensive manufacturing and supply strategies for drug substances, bulk products, and finished products, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Drive and prioritize agendas during internal and external meetings to facilitate effective decision-making and execution.
- Adapt plans flexibly in response to changing priorities and unexpected supply chain challenges.
Risk Management:
- Identify and document potential supply risks, crafting robust mitigation strategies while communicating key concerns to senior management.
- Contribute to business continuity plans for Jazz’s external network.
Promotion of Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Encourage a culture of innovation aimed at enhancing product quality, reducing costs, and improving supply chain effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with CMOs and stakeholders to exchange best practices and foster excellence in external manufacturing.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Develop and implement performance metrics that advance CMO management and enhance Technical Operations reporting capabilities.
- Utilize data analytics to monitor supplier performance, discover trends, and pinpoint areas for enhancement.
- Create and deliver performance reports to senior management and stakeholders as required.
Supplier Compliance and Contract Management:
- Manage Master Services Agreements with CMOs, ensuring compliance with established business standards and requirements.
- Collaborate with Quality, Legal, and Procurement teams to uphold supplier relationships under relevant quality and legal frameworks.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
External Manufacturing and Supplier Management:
- Proven experience in managing CMOs or external vendors within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical sectors.
- Strong ability to oversee supply agreements and ensure contractual compliance while fostering supplier relationship alignment with organizational goals.
Supply Chain and Operations Expertise:
- Hands-on experience in comprehensive supply chain management, including demand planning, production scheduling, and inventory oversight.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes related to various drug forms.
Leadership and Cross-Functional Management:
- Experience directing cross-functional teams and fostering stakeholder collaboration to achieve strategic objectives.
- Strong decision-making capabilities in dynamic and complex environments.
Risk Management and Continuous Improvement Proficiency:
- Background in identifying and addressing supply chain risks with appropriate mitigation tactics.
- Experience in leading continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing operational metrics.
Compliance and Quality Assurance Knowledge:
- Familiarity with GMP regulations and industry standards governing pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Connection to quality assurance practices, regulatory affairs, and adherence to company policies.
Financial Acumen and Contract Management:
- Experience in budget oversight and financial tracking in relation to external manufacturing operations.
- Competence in contract negotiation and procurement strategies.
Analytical and Performance Management Skills:
- Proficiency in utilizing data analytics to drive performance management, along with experience presenting findings to upper management.
