In this dynamic position reporting to the Senior Associate General Counsel/Intellectual Property, you will be a key contributor to our IP Legal team, focusing on all aspects of patent prosecution and managing our patent portfolio. Your mission will be to deliver exceptional service to our internal clients throughout the organization while offering support to both internal and external counsel. Collaboration will be key, as you will interact with leaders across business and legal departments. We seek a confident professional who can provide expert, clear, and well-reasoned business advice on complex legal issues. Your role will involve supporting diverse business units with unique needs, requiring you to be a proactive self-starter who excels at time management and anticipatory service. Additionally, you may assist in managing other aspects of intellectual property, including trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks.

Your Key Responsibilities:
Engage with a variety of internal clients and collaborate with attorneys to address inquiries, evaluate development projects, and offer patentability guidance.
Guide and mentor inventors on patentability and assist with the preparation of invention disclosures.
Support the management of a growing docket of patent filings.
Analyze the patent portfolio and generate impactful reports.
Contribute to the creation of internal IP procedures.
Draft correspondence and develop presentation materials for business leaders and the executive patent council.
Represent the legal team in internal patent review boards.
Create and maintain educational content on IP Legal matters, assisting with employee training initiatives.
Identify potential legal risks and escalate concerns as necessary.
Conduct research and preliminary investigations related to possible IP infringements.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a software-related science discipline.
Juris Doctor degree.
Active admission to the state bar where you reside.
Registered to practice as a Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
3+ years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or technology company.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced in creating and designing presentation materials.
A proactive, independent self-starter capable of managing multiple projects with a sense of urgency and attention to quality.
Strong organizational abilities along with a detail-oriented and deadline-focused approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or Doctorate in a software-related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of software technologies and patent eligibility criteria.
Data analysis expertise with a keen attention to detail.
Proven track record of collaboration within a complex business and legal environment.
Insight into business challenges associated with legal projects.
Exceptional presentation skills with significant experience in preparing presentation materials.
Ability to assess and determine the appropriate legal strategies that align with business objectives.
Capacity to establish and maintain strong relationships with superiors, peers, subordinates, clients, and outside counsel.
Experience working in a small team, effectively sharing work to ensure timely project completion.

The salary range for this position is $124,500 to $239,400 annually, contingent on full-time employment. Compensation is determined by various factors, including local labor markets, education, experience, and certifications. UnitedHealth Group adheres to all relevant minimum wage laws.
