    Overview

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting directly to the Director or their designated representative, the Business Systems Integration Specialist plays a pivotal role in analyzing and enhancing business operations. This role requires a keen understanding of data analysis, along with practical knowledge of the software tools and manual processes that drive our operations. The Specialist will oversee internal control activities for assigned programs within the department, ensuring the seamless execution of system maintenance releases, upgrades, conversions, and enhancements.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Engage in needs assessments, gather requirements, and help develop proposals for software and business management initiatives, along with ongoing maintenance.
    • Conduct analysis on historical utilization, costs, and caseload projections to identify tools and improvements that streamline operations, while evaluating enhancement requests and making actionable recommendations.
    • Collaborate with information services and vendors, ensuring all software implementations align with UMass Medical School’s computing policies.
    • Merge business operational needs with software and data tools to generate insightful reports.
    • Validate report data quality and proactively monitor system-generated data, ensuring accurate and reliable reporting.
    • Track IT/vendor status on system issues and enhancement requests, facilitating business management in setting appropriate priorities for system-related work.
    • Administer various software applications, managing tasks such as password administration, table updates, report generation, and implementation of upgrades.
    • Provide support in troubleshooting software tool issues from a business operations standpoint, assisting users in diagnosing problems and communicating with IT.
    • Lead user acceptance testing initiatives, developing test plans and coordinating with staff on testing procedures and findings.
    • Support staff at all levels with system-related questions and develop user manuals and system patches as needed.
    • May oversee the work of staff related to system items, such as leading user acceptance testing efforts.
    • Create, implement, and monitor management and internal control plans while conducting quality and internal control reviews.
    • Act as the primary contact for department audits, coordinating both internal and external audit activities.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing findings from internal reviews and recommending processe improvements.
    • Design and conduct training sessions focused on workflow improvements associated with system enhancements.
    • Perform additional duties as necessary.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in software or main-frame applications support or development, particularly emphasizing the business operations and end-user interaction.
    • Understanding of software application development concepts and project execution.
    • Basic grasp of relational database concepts and capability to extract relevant data through ad-hoc reporting tools.
    • Skill in evaluating the operational impact of software changes while assessing how changes in business processes affect software tools.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Previous experience in developing and overseeing quality improvement programs in operations.
    • Knowledge of auditing principles and practices.
    • A proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, alongside the ability to analyze data and manage time efficiently.
    • Willingness to travel to off-site locations, including potential out-of-state travel.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s Degree in Business or a related field.
    • Familiarity with healthcare claims processing systems and standards.
    • Experience in designing and executing effective software testing procedures from a business operations perspective.
    • Expertise in workflow design and process improvement, particularly in finding automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and quality.
    • Proficient in SQL, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Crystal Reports, MS Word, and integrating applications within Microsoft products.
