    Position Overview:

    This role entails a thorough examination and evaluation of documentation within medical records for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately assign diagnoses, procedures, and charge codes as dictated by the physicians of record. The position supports clinical team members and entails both facility and professional coding and charging responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with the Standards of Ethical Coding as established by the American Health Information Management Association, along with adherence to official coding guidelines.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program, or related healthcare discipline, or equivalent clinical experience.

    • Experience: Minimum of 6 years in coding and/or charging within ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses/procedure coding or HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care environment or professional service. A solid understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, as well as MS-DRG, APC, or MPFS/RVU payment methodologies is necessary.

    • Certification/Registration: Valid credentials such as Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H), or Certified Radiology Cardiovascular Coding (CIRCC). If you possess the requisite charge/clinical experience, you must obtain one of these coding certifications within 6 months of employment or transfer.

    • Preferred Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program, or a related healthcare discipline is preferred.
