We are on the lookout for a passionate and strategic leader to step into the role of Director of Data Science within our Health Solutions and Insights division. This pivotal position involves crafting AI/ML strategies and solutions that tackle significant healthcare challenges using real-world data. You will be responsible for guaranteeing the successful execution of these solutions by establishing high standards and nurturing a team of exceptional data scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Data Science Practice in the Health Solutions and Insights division, managing a dynamic team of over 20 data scientists who apply advanced data science techniques to health-related datasets.
Formulate and advance the practice’s vision and strategy, focusing on innovative AI/ML solutions that align with Mathematica’s commitment to enhancing healthcare decision-making through data-driven insights.
Oversee multi-disciplinary teams of data scientists, solution architects, engineers, researchers, and consultants in executing impactful AI/ML projects.
Manage practice resources by prioritizing budgets and investments in initiatives, conferences, training sessions, and publications.
Engage collaboratively with clients, partners, contractors, and community stakeholders.
Provide mentorship to team members, cultivating their growth into thought leaders in the field.
Champion change management processes that foster a culture of innovation and ongoing development.
Support the organization’s dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion by integrating these principles into all facets of the role.
Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
A minimum of 7-10 years of leadership experience in data science and analytics, particularly within the healthcare sector.
An advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Public Health, Statistics, or a closely related field.
Strong applied statistical skills, including familiarity with various statistical tests, distributions, regression models, and maximum likelihood estimation.
A solid grasp of multivariable calculus and linear algebra, crucial for predictive modeling and algorithm optimization.
Expertise in both unsupervised and supervised machine learning techniques, including clustering algorithms, decision trees, and neural networks.
Understanding of generative AI technologies and methodologies, encompassing retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, and LLM fine-tuning.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Julia, and SQL; experience with Scala, Java, or C++ is an added advantage.
Experience in architecting cloud-based solutions and utilizing distributed computing resources on platforms like AWS; familiarity with GCP or Microsoft Azure is beneficial.
