    Overview

    Chartwells Higher Education is searching for a District Finance Manager to spearhead financial and accounting initiatives for universities in the New England area. In this critical role, you will assist the Director of Finance in overseeing every facet of financial operations within the region. Your expertise will ensure the precision of financial records, adherence to internal controls, financial analytics, and strategic planning. This position entails a remote setup with an anticipated travel requirement of 10% within the area.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee all accounting activities within the district, ensuring complete and accurate execution.
    • Implement strict internal controls to protect company assets, including cash, inventory, and accounts receivable.
    • Conduct reconciliations and analyses for multiple balance sheet accounts, addressing discrepancies efficiently.
    • Analyze financial outcomes and Key Performance Indicators for both internal assessment and client reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual financial obligations, safeguarding Chartwells’ interests.
    • Develop and manage forecasts and budgets while identifying potential risks and opportunities.
    • Review weekly general ledger transactions and make necessary correcting entries.
    • Contribute to proforma development for new business initiatives and client retention.
    • Prepare comprehensive financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as required.
    • Mentor and guide unit accounting and clerical staff, providing financial acumen to operational leaders.
    • Prepare and deliver financial presentations to internal teams and client leadership.
    • Engage in special projects and perform related tasks as assigned.
    • Travel approximately 10% of the time for business needs.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is highly preferred.
    • Experience in food service accounting is advantageous.
    • A minimum of five years of hands-on financial experience is essential.
    • Prior experience in supporting operations is strongly preferred.
    • Advanced Excel skills with a strong analytical foundation are required.
    • Proficient in preparing key metric reports, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow analyses.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with teams and client partners.
    • Strong communication skills to articulate financial and accounting concepts across varying levels of management.
    • Capable of organizing and managing complex processes while analyzing moderately complex financial models.
    • Familiarity with POS systems and cash/credit card reconciliations ideal.
    • Competency in managing multiple responsibilities and relationships is essential.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct.
    • Must reside within 2-3 hours’ driving distance to main accounts in the New England area.
