Your Role Overview
As a pivotal DevOps Engineer, you will be instrumental in optimizing the delivery and functioning of applications and services that align with Enrollment Management’s strategic goals. Your responsibilities encompass the establishment and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, managing Boomi integrations, and developing innovative solutions on the Azure platform. You will collaborate closely with both development and operations teams to propose and implement cost-effective, secure technology solutions while ensuring adherence to compliance standards. Additionally, you will provide critical backup support for endpoint operations and end-user systems when required.
Key Responsibilities
Integration and Process Management
- Design, implement, and uphold essential integration systems connecting various platforms such as:
- Department of Education systems (COD, CPS, NSLDS)
- Student information systems (PeopleSoft, Workday)
- Customer relationship management (Salesforce, SLATE)
- Document management and electronic signature systems (SoftDocs, Perceptive Content, DocuSign)
- Financial aid processing systems (TDClient, TDCM, EDconnect)
- Develop and execute processes for:
- Real-time data synchronization
- Advanced data transformation
- Error handling and monitoring
- Process optimization and performance enhancement
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for all integration protocols.
- Assist staff with data transfer between external organizations and internal systems.
- Keep current knowledge of financial aid processes and related software.
Development and Automation
- Build and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, Boomi, and other scripting tools.
- Develop and refine PeopleSoft queries and SQR programs for data extraction and reporting.
- Enhance tools to facilitate continuous integration and delivery.
- Engage in code reviews and quality assurance to ensure system reliability.
Security and Compliance
- Establish security measures within the CI/CD pipeline.
- Ensure compliance with university security policies and industry standards.
- Participate in security evaluations and address vulnerabilities promptly.
- Document and uphold security procedures for automated processes.
Operations Support
- Oversee virtual infrastructure, ensuring system reliability.
- Provide Tier 2 (L2) support for critical incidents and escalated challenges.
- Collaborate with the Endpoint Operations Manager using management tools (Quest K1000/K2000, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender).
- Create automation tools for routine IT services and tasks.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding system status.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field and two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience combinations:
- Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years of experience.
- Associate’s Degree with seven (7) years of experience.
- High school diploma/GED with nine (9) years of experience.
- Proven hands-on experience with DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
- Ability to design and manage complex integration solutions for diverse systems.
- Experience with ERP integration methods and tools, including PeopleSoft, SAP, and Oracle E-Business Suite; proficiency in SQR and relevant programming languages.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL and database management (SQL Server, Oracle).
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Demonstrated project management expertise.
- Capacity to thrive both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Credentials
- Relevant professional certifications, such as Boomi or equivalent integration platforms; Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Developer Associate, DevOps Engineer Expert).
- Experience with enterprise integration platforms like Boomi AtomSphere, MuleSoft, Apache Camel, and Microsoft Power Automate.
- Strong understanding of cloud services and development tools (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform).
- Expertise in scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, Azure CLI, AWS CLI, Google Cloud SDK).
- Experience in higher education or nonprofit settings; familiarity with Financial Aid systems and Department of Education interfaces is a plus.
- Knowledge of endpoint management tools.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Flexibility for some evening and weekend work for system maintenance may be required.
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- This role offers the possibility of a remote work arrangement, allowing you to work from a location other than the UMass Amherst campus, subject to the terms outlined in the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
Compensation Details
Position categorized at Salary Level 28.
