    Job Description

At Passenger, we are dedicated to developing technology that makes a meaningful difference, and we are on the lookout for a Full Stack Software Engineer eager to positively influence the world around us.

In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of new features across Passenger’s web portfolio. Collaborating with our Engineering, Product, and Design teams, you will craft intuitive, efficient, and secure web experiences while steadfastly adhering to best practices in both front-end and full-stack development.

You’ll be joining a talented team of engineers eager to welcome a new member who embodies a can-do spirit, professional agility, and tangible expertise.

    Who You Are

You are a web-focused software engineer driven by a desire to create user-friendly, high-performance, accessible, and visually appealing web applications. You excel at interpreting, providing feedback on, and implementing wireframes, design mock-ups, and technical specifications from our Product Development Department. Your passion for developing end-to-end systems extends to managing their infrastructure.

    Your Key Responsibilities

You will play a vital role in enhancing Passenger’s product portfolio by implementing new features and evolving existing ones. Your insights will be key as you assist in capturing requirements and designing effective solutions to both product and technical challenges.

Working collaboratively, you will design APIs and integrate them to develop robust web applications. You relish the opportunity to test applications for peak performance and compatibility across diverse browsers, operating systems, and devices.

Prioritizing accessibility best practices, you ensure that all users can engage seamlessly with Passenger’s platforms.

Writing testable, scalable, flexible, observable, reliable, and secure code is essential to you. You take pride in participating in peer code reviews, providing constructive feedback to fellow engineers.

You will also be part of the Out of Hours rota for the Help Desk.

    Experience and Skills Required

You should possess hands-on experience with HTML5, CSS, CSS precompilers, JavaScript, TypeScript, and other modern web development technologies. Familiarity with PHP 8 and frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel, CakePHP, or Slim is essential. Experience with web frameworks like React, Vue, or Ember is a strong plus.

Your understanding of API best practices, including RESTful principles, HTTP status codes, and caching, is vital. You should have experience with asynchronous programming techniques and state management, including client-side storage and dependency management.

Experience in a test-driven development environment is expected, with a focus on established frameworks and practices.

    Location

This position offers the opportunity to work remotely. We value in-person connections and ask that you attend our office at least four times a year for team collaboration and company events.

If you’re situated within a 35-mile radius of our office, you’re welcome to work from there as frequently as you like, enjoying the best of both worlds: the flexibility of remote work combined with in-person collaboration when it suits you.
