This position offers the potential for a temporary role to evolve into a permanent opportunity.
We are seeking a dedicated remote lead cook to oversee our kitchen team, fostering a positive and safe work atmosphere while providing essential training, support, and leadership to ensure staff are equipped to deliver high-quality cuisine. Your contributions will align with NMS’s mission, vision, and values, along with departmental guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes following established recipes.
- Handle the preparation, cooking, and service of meats, sauces, vegetables, soups, and more.
- Skillfully carve meats as needed.
- Operate the main food production line, focusing on specific items designated for your shift.
- Prepare a range of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, as well as beverages and snacks.
- Create and bake an assortment of baked goods within a remote camp environment, ensuring quality and freshness.
- Develop new recipes informed by your culinary expertise and the type of food being prepared.
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in your work area.
- Foster excellent communication and relationships with clients and employees to continuously enhance quality and resolve issues.
- Comply with all NMS safety regulations, and actively participate in safety training and initiatives.
- Train and mentor assigned staff in NMS safety policies, promoting a culture of safety.
- Coordinate safety meetings and activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Identify, report, and assist in resolving potential safety hazards in the workplace.
- Oversee a team of up to 30 assigned staff, delegating tasks and responsibilities effectively.
- Alert supervisors if any safety or sanitation standards are compromised.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support departmental success.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or GED, along with relevant formal training or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in high-volume food production within a restaurant setting, showcasing your knowledge of food service and supervisory techniques.
- Proven ability to instruct and train staff, while managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
- Successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including drug testing and physical assessments.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and customers.
- Demonstrate independent decision-making skills with minimal supervision.
- Capability to stay on your feet for 12-hour shifts during your rotation.
- Adapt to dormitory-style living and meet cleanliness standards in our remote camp setting.
- Proficient in English—reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Adhere to all safety protocols established by the company and clients.
For Candidates Outside the Anchorage Area:
Candidates residing in Alaska and the Lower 48 will have pre-employment testing conducted in Anchorage, while those in Alaska may have their testing scheduled locally, barring any service gaps.
Traveling to Remote Locations:
Employees are responsible for their travel expenses to Anchorage for remote location assignments.
Physical and Working Conditions:
- Work indoors and outdoors, with exposure to variable weather conditions.
- Moderate to loud noise levels may be encountered based on your work environment.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and performing various physical activities such as climbing, kneeling, and squatting.
