    As the Optum Radiation Oncology Medical Director, you will play a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership to launch an advanced, all-encompassing Radiation Oncology solution designed to meet clinical, quality, and financial targets. This innovative program will assist healthcare providers in delivering high-caliber, evidence-driven, and cost-effective radiation oncology care to our clients. We are in search of a proactive, hands-on clinician focused on enhancing quality, affordability, and satisfaction for both members and providers as part of our dedicated radiation oncology team.

    Your Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct utilization review determinations for radiation oncology patients, collaborating with case and disease management teams to optimize clinical outcomes.
    • Engage with providers over the phone to discuss evidence-based guidelines, identify clinical quality/service gaps, and suggest care plan modifications that may influence healthcare expenses.
    • Enhance the clinical acumen of the radiation oncology team through educational sessions with nursing staff, while serving as a thought leader and point of contact for relevant medical societies and stakeholders.
    • Communicate the Optum clinical value proposition emphasizing quality, efficiency, and service in support of sales initiatives, including client presentations and customer consultations.
    • Analyze clinical and related data (quality metrics, claims, health records, utilization metrics) to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing clinical care and operational processes.
    • Collaborate with operational and business partners on extensive research and quality initiatives to elevate Optum’s influence within the Radiation Oncology domain.
    • This remote role requires a company-provided personal computer, reliable internet access, and familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.
    • Participate in rotational weekend/holiday on-call coverage as per schedule.

    Required Qualifications:

    • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license.
    • Current board certification in Radiation Oncology.
    • Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience, including within radiation oncology.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
    • A proven track record in medical care delivery systems, utilization management, case management, disease management, quality management, product development, and/or peer review.
    • Ability to quickly establish credibility, influence, and partner effectively with clinical staff and the broader medical community.
    • Availability for rotational weekend/holiday on-call responsibilities as scheduled.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in managed care, quality management, or administrative leadership roles.
    • Familiarity with payer guidelines.
    • Experience in client-facing customer relationship management.

    The compensation for this role typically falls between $238,000 to $357,500, inclusive of base salary and potential bonuses. This figure is influenced by a variety of factors, including local labor markets, education, experience, and is subject to growth based on performance. We strictly adhere to all applicable minimum wage laws.
