    As the Medical Director for Oncology, your expertise will be crucial in performing utilization review determinations and supporting case and disease management teams to achieve outstanding clinical results.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Conduct utilization review determinations for oncology patient populations while collaborating with case and disease management teams to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
    • Act as a subject matter expert on evidence-based oncology guidelines, particularly those established by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), ensuring that our clinical policies are grounded in the best available evidence.
    • Engage with treating providers through telephonic discussions, focusing on evidence-based guidelines, identifying clinical quality and service gaps, and suggesting care plan adjustments to decrease healthcare costs.
    • Enhance the Oncology team’s clinical knowledge through educational sessions for nursing staff, serving as a thought leader and point of contact for relevant medical societies and stakeholders.
    • Analyze clinical and other relevant data—such as quality metrics, claims, health record data, and utilization statistics—to pinpoint opportunities for improving clinical care and workflows.
    • Collaborate with operational and business partners on wide-ranging research and clinical quality initiatives to strengthen Optum’s influence in the oncology sector.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) with an active, unrestricted medical license.
    • Ability to obtain additional licenses as required.
    • Current Board Certification in an ABMS or AOBMS specialty in Oncology.
    • A minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience, including work in Medical Oncology.
    • Familiarity with NCCN guidelines.
    • Proven track record in areas such as medical care delivery, utilization management, case management, disease management, quality management, product development, and peer review.
    • Willingness to participate in rotational holiday and call coverage.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in managed care and quality management.

    The salary range for this position is between $238,000 and $357,500 annually based on full-time employment. This range represents total cash compensation and may vary according to individual experience and performance metrics. Compensation is influenced by various factors, including education, work history, and certifications. In addition to a competitive salary, UnitedHealth Group provides a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase options, and a 401k contribution (subject to eligibility requirements).
