We are on the hunt for a skilled z/OS Systems Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic UK team remotely.

Role Overview

The selected z/OS Systems Hardware Engineer will possess a blend of technical expertise, domain knowledge, and specialized skills necessary to ensure optimal operation, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of our Mainframe Processors as technology evolves.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing and maintaining the UK Mainframe Processor infrastructure in a complex multi-LPAR, multi-site Sysplex environment.
• Facilitating the transition of the UK Mainframe estate to the latest IBM Processor generation.
• Upgrading Microcode levels across Mainframe Processors, Coupling Facilities, HMCs, and TKEs.
• Constructing and activating IODF/IOCDS configurations in alignment with storage updates and other critical projects.
• Modifying PR/SM definitions using HMC.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

• A wealth of experience in mainframe hardware support and configuration, which is critical for this position.
• Proficiency in z/OS, HMC, HCD, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, CHPID Mapping tool, and JES2.
• Familiarity with the latest IBM z processor series: z14, z15, z16.
• Knowledge of Sysplex and Coupling Facility operations.
• Experience in troubleshooting day-to-day incidents and issues.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and strong teamwork aptitude.
• Willingness to provide out-of-hours support for hardware updates and important projects requiring specialized expertise.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information effectively.
• Strong relationship-building skills to foster connections across business functions.
• Experience in developing and executing detailed business and operational plans.
• Understanding of risk management principles to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Desirable Skills: (not mandatory but advantageous)

• Familiarity with Automation, GDPS, Rexx, and CLIST.
• Understanding of OSA-ICC definition/configuration.
• Basic knowledge of DWDM.
• Insight into Disk/Tape infrastructure.
