The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is excited to announce a remote, full-time opportunity for a Systems & Technology Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank, slated to commence in Summer 2025. This professional faculty role is non-tenure track, with an initial appointment for three years, extendable for up to five-year periods based on performance in accordance with Texas A&M University System Policy 12.07. In this pivotal role, your key responsibilities will involve:
Enhancing the library’s operational efficiency by designing, testing, deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting, administering, and evaluating crucial discovery, delivery, and inventory systems, including OCLC Worldshare Management System (WMS), OpenAthens, the Springshare LibApps suite, and vendor Application Program Interfaces (APIs).
Collaborating with library staff to research, recommend, and implement emerging technologies, ensuring the library remains at the forefront of innovation.
Offering expert training and support to library personnel regarding system configurations, troubleshooting issues, data analysis, and system improvements.
Acting as the primary liaison with library systems vendors, fostering strong relationships for effective troubleshooting, system upgrades, and project assessments.
Formulating strategies for collaboration and planning to support interdisciplinary digital projects and initiatives.
Ensuring seamless off-campus access to library systems by maintaining and updating OpenAthens.
Engaging in continuous professional development to stay updated on trends in library systems, digital tools, and technology advancements.
Collaborating with the Office of Information Technology and other campus stakeholders to enhance library technology initiatives.
Managing and troubleshooting the library’s website to ensure optimal user experience.
Participating in special projects and committee work related to the library, university, and consortia.
Engaging in scholarly activities and professional service to incorporate innovative ideas and technologies into library operations.
Contributing to departmental, university, and professional committees.
Performing additional duties as assigned.
This remote position requires a presence on campus for two specific events: (1) attendance at one commencement ceremony per year, and (2) participation in the work-week before the Fall semester for new faculty orientation and related meetings. Standard working hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM Central Time, Monday through Friday.
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
A Master’s degree in Library Science or a similar qualification from an ALA-accredited institution. Candidates close to completion will also be considered, provided they obtain their degree before the start date.
A minimum of one year of experience in configuring, administering, and managing library systems, such as Alma/Primo VE or OCLC WMS.
A strong foundational knowledge of information technology principles, processes, systems, and standards, including operating systems, security, wireless networking, digital initiatives, and web technologies.
Evidence of potential for professional growth and advancement.
Preferred candidates will ideally have:
A genuine passion for supporting first-generation students.
Two years of experience with library management systems, including configuration and administration.
A track record of leading projects or implementing technologies in an academic library setting.
Experience with authentication mechanisms like Shibboleth, SAML, or OpenAthens.
An understanding of programming concepts, scripting environments, and languages such as Python, R, Java, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, JSON, XSL, and XML.
Insight into the applications of AI and large language models in higher education.
Experience with data visualization and data processing techniques.
