London (Hybrid) or Fully Remote in the UK, offering a competitive salary of £90,000 – £110,000 (based on experience) + Benefits / About Us

    The Growth Team Dynamic:

The growth crew at Monzo is dedicated to helping customers uncover the distinct advantages of Monzo while fostering healthy financial behaviors from the outset. We strive to identify growth opportunities within our team and empower other departments to unlock further value, crafting experiences that our customers eagerly want to share with their friends and family.

    • We advocate for our customers. Our goal is to provide delightful experiences that cater specifically to their needs, not ours.
    • We turn growth hypotheses into impactful experiments. The outcomes guide our direction and inform our next steps.
    • We prioritize outcomes over mere output. We’re willing to decline smaller wins that divert us from achieving larger objectives.
    • We believe in teamwork for growth. Collaboration allows us to accomplish greater achievements by leveraging our diverse expertise and perspectives.

    Your Responsibilities

As Growth Design emerges as a new domain at Monzo, you will be supported by a passionate and seasoned team comprising product designers, user researchers, and writers—all focused on ensuring success for our users and teammates. This small but dynamic team relies on each designer’s contributions to enhance our community of practice—whether by honing design skills, leading rituals, or providing constructive feedback.

As part of a cross-functional product squad, you’ll take the lead on all design initiatives, from initial discovery and user journey mapping to the implementation of fine-tuned UI design details (and everything in between). As you grow into your role, you’ll develop a profound understanding of the customers we serve—participating in user research sessions, learning from past insights, or conducting your own swift research and analysis to grasp the who, what, and why behind the challenges you’re addressing. You’ll demonstrate a pragmatic approach to balancing ideal experiences with the need for scope adjustments based on technical limitations, experimentation strategies, or business risks—always advocating for user-friendly, intuitive, and accessible experiences.

Collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists at Monzo ensures that teams don’t just produce stellar designs; they are integrally involved in the entire design process. You will find support throughout, as our design and product leadership is deeply engaged with the activities of each squad and collective, aligning long-term strategies, business objectives, and quality experiences while providing ample opportunities for visibility and feedback.

You Are an Ideal Candidate If You:

    • Are a designer who balances quality with humility and remains open to alternative directions.
    • Communicate effectively, whether conveying your ideas, collaborating with peers, or crafting UX copy.
    • Have a data-driven mindset, whether by collaborating with data experts or analyzing data independently.
    • Embrace experimentation, capable of formulating hypotheses, crafting test strategies, and interpreting user behavior.
    • Thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable working with pace.
    • Are passionate about driving collaborative ownership across different touchpoints, eager to unify teams around common user challenges.
    • Focus on delivering meaningful outcomes and effective solutions both as an individual contributor and cross-functional partner.
    • Have a keen interest in incorporating emerging technologies, such as AI, into your design process.
    • Create delightful and engaging high-quality prototypes with precision.
    • Possess a solid foundation in product design that transcends conventional layouts to infuse creativity and personality.
    • View failures as opportunities for learning rather than obstacles to progress.
    • Have experience facilitating design sprints.
    • Are adept at developing quick prototypes and testing them effectively to rapidly validate ideas.
    • Have embraced the principle of ‘strong opinions loosely held’, leveraging data and insights to inform your views while remaining flexible.
    • Have contributed to scalable products across multiple regions.

Our Interview Process Consists of Three Key Stages:

    • Initial Call (30 minutes): A video conversation with a member of our hiring team, focusing on your general fit for Monzo.
    • Craft/Case Study Interview (1 hour): You’ll present a case study to two team members, including our Director of Product Design for Growth and another Lead Designer.
    • Final Loop (1.5 hours): Two interviews evaluating your impact and teamwork, usually conducted on the same day via separate video calls.

Our hiring process typically spans 2-3 weeks, tailored around your availability. You will have opportunities to connect with our recruitment team at various stages, and if you have any questions, please reach out to us.
