    **Key Responsibilities**

    This role requires a UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance. If you do not currently possess SC clearance, we support and facilitate your application, provided you have lived and worked in the UK for at least five years.

    As a Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing backend services for a government client using state-of-the-art commercial and open-source technologies. Your key tasks will include designing, developing, documenting, and deploying backend services that prioritize high availability, low latency, and scalability.

    • Design, develop, document, and deploy innovative features for our backend services that align with both functional and non-functional business needs.
    • Engage actively in the team’s discussion and estimation of user stories.
    • Deliver frequent, small releases to sustain the team’s momentum and productivity.
    • Collaborate effectively with fellow engineers across cross-functional feature teams, ensuring robust coverage and support.
    • Construct, optimize, and manage our Continuous Deployment pipelines.
    • Assume operational responsibility for the services managed by your team.

    **Essential Qualifications**

    The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline, or possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in software development.

    The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas, commensurate with the seniority of the position:

    • Extensive experience in JAVA programming, particularly with Spring Boot.
    • Proficiency in writing clean and efficient JAVA code.
    • Familiarity with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
    • Experience with Scala and Spark.
    • Integration expertise with backend services such as PostgreSQL, Redis, or S3.
    • Strong commitment to engineering best practices, including continuous delivery, clean coding, comprehensive documentation, defensive programming, automated testing, and peer code reviews.
    • Experience working within Agile development and/or DevOps team environments.
    • Proficient in using GitHub/GitLab for version control.
    • Experience applying Test Driven Development (TDD) principles with the appropriate tools and frameworks.
    • Familiarity with Big Data technologies.
    • Experience with Public Cloud services, such as AWS.
