- We celebrate individuality—our team members are our most valuable asset.
- We foster a culture of innovation and an eagerness to grow.
- Enjoy real autonomy and flexibility, along with numerous leadership prospects.
- We prioritize work-life balance with a people-first culture.
- Collaborate with a global team dedicated to solving pivotal challenges throughout the asset lifecycle.
About the HVDC Team
By joining our close-knit HVDC team, you will engage throughout the entire lifecycle of converter assets—from specification and design to commissioning and long-term operational support. We cooperate with system owners, operators, and OEMs on complex, high-impact undertakings, such as Eleclink, Eastern Green Links, and the Celtic Interconnector.
Our clientele includes industry frontrunners like National Grid, SSE, EirGrid, and Hitachi. Whether conducting fault diagnosis on active assets or undertaking comprehensive OEM design reviews, our mission is to provide practical, hands-on engineering solutions. We pride ourselves on delivering vital technical support that ensures the effective operation of essential HVDC infrastructure.
With offices located in Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Stafford, we embrace flexible work arrangements, allowing you the freedom to work from anywhere in the UK while valuing in-person interactions whenever possible.
Your Responsibilities
In this position, you will apply your extensive HVDC expertise to:
- Lead engineering support throughout all stages of HVDC projects, including specification, design review, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support.
- Carry out site inspections, oversee testing at OEM facilities, and assist in live commissioning efforts.
- Analyze and troubleshoot operational challenges on interconnectors and converter stations, providing steadfast client guidance.
- Advise clients on HVDC technology choices and system design strategies.
- Collaborate closely with Project Directors, Procurement, and Legal teams on behalf of clients.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to industry thought leadership through white papers and engagement with groups like IEEE and CIGRE.
Some travel across the UK will be necessary (typically up to once a month), along with occasional international trips for factory testing or commissioning activities.
Your Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; must be a Chartered Engineer (or actively pursuing this status).
- 8+ years of experience with HVDC projects, including system design, commissioning, and operational support.
- In-depth knowledge of converter station equipment, insulation coordination, and system-level design.
- Experience with significant HVDC interconnectors.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to advise and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
- A collaborative spirit, comfortable working within a dispersed, international team.
- A robust professional network and an interest in business development.
- A growth mindset accompanied by a passion for self-improvement and mentoring others.
At PSC, we believe that work should enrich your life, not overwhelm it. We offer the flexibility and independence to manage your work in harmony with your personal life while remaining part of a collaborative and high-achieving team. You will be given the trust to drive meaningful outcomes, supported by a culture that values both professionalism and personal balance.
If you aspire to shape the future of HVDC in the UK and beyond—from hands-on operations to strategic consulting—PSC provides you the platform, the projects, and the people to bring your vision to life.
