Job Description

Adecco is excited to partner with a Local Authority client in the search for a skilled and knowledgeable Reviews Officer. The selected candidate will play a key role in conducting statutory reviews of homelessness decisions as per Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended). This position is vital in ensuring that the Council’s decisions are just, legally sound, and well-supported in the face of challenges.

Only those with significant experience in Reviews will be considered for this role.

This position is fully remote, with office visits required solely for IT kit collection and return purposes.

  • Contract Type: Temporary role for 3 months, with potential for extension
  • Compensation: £31 per hour Umbrella

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a personal caseload of homelessness and suitability reviews, ensuring adherence to statutory and internal deadlines.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations and issue legally solid decisions based on relevant housing laws.
  • Engage with applicants, legal representatives, medical professionals, and internal teams to collect and evaluate evidence effectively.
  • Deliver professional advice and guidance on homelessness legislation and related legal issues.
  • Represent the Council in legal scenarios, including court appearances as needed.
  • Maintain precise records and actively contribute to enhancing service delivery.

Essential Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and related legislative frameworks.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal statutes such as the Family Law Act, Children Acts, Human Rights Act, and Equalities Act 2010.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong investigative and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional written communication abilities, especially in drafting legally defensible decisions.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex legislation and case law, while clearly conveying findings to diverse stakeholders.

Essential Experience:

  • Robust experience in housing needs or complaints-based environments, with proven involvement in statutory reviews or legal casework.
