    Responsibilities

    In this role, you will support a federal agency in advancing its environmental initiatives while ensuring adherence to a range of environmental legislation, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Success in this position requires strong communication abilities, a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions, in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, and astute problem-solving skills.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Assisting the federal environmental branch lead as part of our skilled environmental technical team.
    • Creating environmental clearances, technical documentation, and guidance that align with CBP policies and directives.
    • Ensuring all projects comply with relevant regulations nationwide.
    • Monitoring the progress of environmental requirements until completion, ensuring that all mitigation strategies and metrics are documented within various CBP tracking and repository systems.
    • Collaborating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies and different branches within CBP and DHS.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (science, engineering, etc.) is required.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years focused on NEPA compliance preferred.
    • Previous experience working with CBP’s portfolios and program offices is advantageous.
    • Experience in areas such as:
      • NEPA
      • NHPA
      • ESA
      • CAA
      • CWA
      • RCRA
      • Development and delivery of environmental training programs
    • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint), TRIRIGA, and ArcGIS.
    • A collaborative team player who embodies a positive attitude in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Preferred: Relevant professional certification or training in environmental planning.
    • Ability to excel in a telework/mobile work setting is essential.
    • Self-sufficient work style, capable of independent task execution.
    • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
    • Physical stamina to hike to remote sites and carry up to 20 lbs.

    Candidates must be able to pass a government background investigation, which includes checks on financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliations, prohibited substance use, and employment history. An active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation is preferred. Please note that only U.S. citizens are eligible for a suitability determination.
