At HJL Accountancy, we view ourselves not merely as external accountants but as trusted financial advisors integral to our clients’ business journeys.

    Job Type: Full Time

    Location: Remote

    About the Role:

We are searching for a highly organized and self-motivated Bookkeeper who takes initiative and proactively identifies what needs to be done. This role is not for someone who just processes transactions and moves on; we need an individual who naturally brings order, follows up without prompts, and ensures that our clients stay on track.

Your responsibilities will span a variety of tasks, including payroll and personal tax returns, so experience in these areas will be highly beneficial.

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Manage client bookkeeping tasks using platforms like Xero and QuickBooks
    • Accurately and timely process payrolls, including pension submissions
    • Assist in preparing personal tax returns
    • Proactively follow up on missing documentation or responses from clients and accountants

    Ideal Qualifications:

    • A self-starter who takes ownership and does not require constant oversight
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
    • Firm understanding of UK payroll and personal tax regulations
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks while prioritising effectively
    • Detail-oriented, proactive, and always looking one step ahead

As a dynamic startup, we move quickly, embrace flexibility, and seek individuals who thrive in such an environment. Ideally, you have experience working in a smaller practice or startup, understanding the importance of staying sharp in a fast-paced context.

Note that this role is fully remote and operates on a freelance contract basis.
