    Job Overview

    As a Remote Chef, you will play a vital role in managing our kitchen team, fostering a positive and safe work environment while providing essential training and leadership to ensure optimal performance and top-notch services. Your contributions will be central to upholding the mission, vision, and values of NMS, as well as adhering to our departmental policies and best practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Create and refine recipes tailored to the cuisine being prepared, leveraging your culinary expertise and experience.

    • Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes and standards.

    • Skillfully prepare, cook, and present meats, sauces, vegetables, soups, and a variety of other dishes.

    • Expertly carve meats for service.

    • Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of your work area to maintain a safe kitchen environment.

    • Communicate effectively with clients and team members to enhance service quality, address concerns, and integrate new initiatives.

    • Comply with and promote NMS safety policies and procedures.

    • Collaborate with safety personnel to stay updated on safety protocols and foster a strong safety culture.

    • Educate and train your team on safety regulations and best practices, using proactive approaches.

    • Implement disciplinary measures for breaches of safety policies.

    • Participate actively in our commitment to a safer workplace by developing and executing strategies to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.

    • Lead safety meetings for your team to ensure daily operations align with company and client safety standards.

    • Share safety information and updates with staff and other departments regarding any potential hazards.

    • Keep records and documentation of safety-related issues within the workplace.

    • Identify, assess, and address conditions that may lead to injuries or property damage.

    • Support investigations into workplace accidents or incidents as needed.

    • Efficiently delegate tasks and assign responsibilities to a team of up to 30 staff members in a remote camp kitchen setting.

    • Promptly report to supervisors if safety and sanitation standards are compromised.

    • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring all duties contribute to the success of our team.

    • Perform additional tasks that support the overall objectives of the department.

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent, complemented by formal training or extensive experience.

    • Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts or completion of a certified culinary training program from an accredited institution is preferred. If not, candidates must have three (3) years of confirmed leadership experience in a culinary environment.

    • A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on cooking experience in high-volume settings, demonstrating proficiency in food production and service management.

    • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for the last three (3) years to meet NMS insurance requirements.

    • Able to instruct and guide others, while effectively multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

    • Must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.

    • Pass all pre-employment requirements, including potential drug tests and health assessments.

    • Strong team player capable of collaborating with colleagues and clients alike.

    • Ability to make quick decisions with minimal supervision.

    • Capable of standing for 12-hour shifts and meeting the living conditions of dormitory-style accommodations in a remote setting.

    • Fluent in English, capable of reading, writing, and understanding instructions.

    • Commitment to complying with all safety standards set forth by the company and clients.

    Important Information for Remote Candidates:

    For individuals residing in the Lower 48 seeking a position, Anchorage will be the designated point of hire for pre-employment testing (except for drug testing, which will occur closer to your home). Candidates are responsible for travel and accommodation expenses related to required pre-employment tasks in Anchorage, AK, including safety training and fitness assessments.

    Travel Arrangements for Remote Assignments: All employees are accountable for expenses related to travel to Anchorage, AK, which is the staging point for remote assignments.

    Working Environment and Physical Demands

    The role encompasses both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including exposure to arctic climates. The environment will be a high-energy industrial kitchen within a remote camp setting. The ability to stand, walk, and perform various physical tasks, such as climbing and lifting, is essential.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Lift a maximum of 50 lbs from floor to knuckle.

    • Comfortably lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and up to shoulders.

    • Effectively carry 20 lbs over a distance of at least 20 feet.

    • Execute movements such as stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and climbing efficiently.

    • Handle climbing and descending steps while possibly carrying weight for safety.
