Job Overview
In our dynamic remote housekeeping/janitorial role, you will deliver essential cleaning services to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of various facilities, including remote camps, industrial sites, food service areas, and office settings. Your contributions are vital to upholding NMS’ mission, vision, and values in every task you undertake.
Key Responsibilities
Execute thorough cleaning tasks including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and restocking in hallways, stairways, offices, kitchen and food prep areas, restrooms, and more.
Efficiently handle all types of flooring maintenance, which may involve sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming.
Dust surfaces at varying heights to ensure a spotless environment.
Clean various surfaces using appropriate methods and products.
Safely dispose of waste materials and compact trash as needed.
Transport waste to designated disposal areas.
Be responsible for basic facility maintenance, such as changing light bulbs.
Ensure entryways remain clear of snow and debris during winter months.
Operate vehicles as necessary to reach remote locations for work.
Occasionally undertake special cleaning tasks or laundry duties as assigned.
May have designations as either a day or night janitor, with varying responsibilities.
Alert supervisors of any safety or sanitation standard violations.
This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities but may include other duties that support departmental success.
Essential Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in commercial cleaning and familiarity with industrial cleaning practices and equipment.
Proven experience in commercial housekeeping for at least one (1) year.
Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including drug testing, physical assessments, and hearing tests. Candidates not nearby testing sites are responsible for travel expenses.
Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and clients.
Capable of making prompt decisions with minimal supervision.
Must be able to remain on foot for 12-hour shifts during scheduled rotations.
Comfortable living in dormitory-style accommodations while upholding cleanliness standards.
Proficient in English—speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.
Adherence to safety guidelines and regulations is mandatory.
Note for Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage:
For residents of Alaska and the Lower 48: Pre-employment testing will be conducted in Anchorage, with candidates responsible for travel to the nearest testing locations. This covers drug testing and other assessments, including safety training.
For candidates living in Alaska for Alyeska Contract positions: Testing will be arranged locally unless services are unavailable.
Remote Location Travel: All employees must cover expenses incurred traveling to the designated point of hire (Anchorage, AK) before commencing remote assignments.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Weather: Both indoor and outdoor exposure, often in arctic conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to loud.
Environment: This position is set in a remote camp, requiring continuous standing, walking, climbing, and the ability to perform manual labor. Occasional exposure to fumes and chemicals may occur.
Travel: Willingness to travel by plane or bus to remote job sites.
Physical requirements include completing a Fit For Duty Test with the following lifting and mobility tasks:
Lift 35 lbs. from floor to knuckle twice.
Lift 35 lbs. from floor to waist twice.
Lift 8 lbs. from floor to shoulders twice.
Lift 8 lbs. from floor to crown level twice.
Carry 25 lbs. for a minimum distance of 50 feet.
Perform alternating toe touches for flexibility assessment.
Squat functionally as part of physical mobility assessment.
Climb stairs multiple times and carry weights safely.
